Drawing From the Book of Nature

In this seasonally related, five week freshman block, we will be immersing ourselves deeply in all of the natural elements of our 100-acre, beautiful home environment. The work will take place both inside and outside of the studio and classroom. Personal experiences of the landscape, and various artistic expressions, writings, readings, and discussions will be at the core of this block. During the block, you will learn to make five different types of books, each shaped on a different theme from nature and your own multimedia expressions. Students will begin to lay a foundation for developing a sense of place and the beginning development of a personal natural philosophy, ethic, and aesthetic toward the natural world.
