Welcome to High Mowing

Life at High Mowing is one unexpected miracle after another. I saw it in my son's experience here as a student many years ago. I see it in the care and creative energy of my colleagues today. I see it in the changing days and seasons of this beautiful hilltop campus encircled by still woodlands. Most of all, I see it in the blossoming intellect and outrageous humor of the students, their artistic outpourings and care for the earth, their fortitude and love and sheer grace. High Mowing is an inexhaustible cradle of miracles.

Welcome to High Mowing School's website!

High Mowing School is a Waldorf boarding and day school. At maximum enrollment, we have 120 students. Currently, our students come from eleven states and seven countries. We are located in southern New Hampshire, on the top of a hill with open meadows, farm lands, and woodlands surrounding our campus which create spaces for thinking, creating, and healthy activity. The mountain horizon to the west, with its spectacular sunsets and wheeling stars at night, is an ever present source of inspiration.

Our local community is somewhat rural, dotted with small towns and is active culturally, politically and environmentally. We are just over an hour away from cities such as Boston, Massachusetts, Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Burlington, Vermont.

Respect for the individuality of each student is fostered throughout the school. Teachers and the other adults on campus and the students have a lot to learn from each other and they take full advantage of the opportunities to do so.

The curriculum at High Mowing is a rich and challenging one. Students graduate to attend a wide range of colleges and universities. Our goal is to send young people out into the world possessed of a certain surety, an inner balance and and confidence, along with academic knowledge and practical skills to meet life and its infinite possibilities.
