Eurythmy is a universal language of movement, distinct from dance and mime, with its origins in the work of Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925). It has a unique potential as an artistic medium to bring a new dimension to all performance arts. Classical and contemporary poetry, drama and music are brought to expression through a dynamic interplay of the spoken word, live music, gesture and colour. Eurythmy as "music for the eyes" stimulates the perceiver's relationship to the arts of sound (poetry recitation, drama, storytelling, music). Language, the essence of communication, becomes visible in movements that lie inherent in the sounds themselves. New dimensions and possibilities of artistic expression are opened up. There exist over 20 four-year training centres for eurythmy in Europe.

The Moving Word Theatre (formerly English Eurythmy Theatre) is an international touring company founded in 1991 by Philip Beaven and Katherine Rubach. The aim of the company is the exploration of the possibilities of eurythmy as a performing art. Developing its relationship to other movement arts, in performance, has led the company to create a unique style of visual theatre, that combines eurythmy with physical theatre and dance. Most shows are devised out of the ensemble of the company.

Since its inception, the company has toured throughout Britain, mainland Europe and Scandinavia, and North America, giving over 1,000 performance (in theatres and schools) to audiences of adults and children.

Previous shows include:
1999 "Don't I Know You?" and for children "Idunn and the Golden Apples";
1998 "Kaspar Hauser - a Mystery", and for children "Perseus the Gorgon Slayer" and "Mish-o-sha the Magician";
1995-6 “Storm’s Child”, and for children: “Words on the Wing” and “The Sea Dragon”;
