Course Objective

This introductory course will provide an environment for creative expression through visual media. You will learn the basics of making a video from idea to finished product and participate in the production of a number of short videos. We will approach each project in the timely manner of a professional video production -developing the story idea, shooting the footage, and editing the final pieces for review.
You will develop various production and creative skills through guided and teacher facilitated activities. Students will work in production teams, experiencing the various roles each member plays, the collaboration required, and the art of managing a video production team. We will help you cultivate your creative talents and maybe discover new ones.
You will also form an appreciation of how messages are conveyed and used to elicit emotion or action through video and the media -- and how we can use this power for the greater good.
This five week course will flow from Pre-production to Production to Post-Production.

Course Flow - Pre-Production Phase - Weeks One and Two

Production teams will form around story ideas developed by the students. The teams will generate storyboards and shooting notes or scripts in some cases. Storyboards can be created by sketching or using still photos, so please bring your digital still camera or sketching pencils. If you're a writer or a visual artist or musician or like to keep things organized, all of these skills will be used. Let us know what you know.
